Project Overview

Purpose

It’s Enuf is a mobile app that enables users to report and address civic and social issues, primarily focusing on India.

Target issues

The app covers a range of concerns, from minor problems like broken street lamps to serious issues like animal or child abuse.

Challenge

It addresses the barriers to reporting such issues, including lack of awareness, fear, and perceived complexity in the reporting process.

Objective

  • Provide a simple accessible platform for individuals to report civic and social issues in real-time.

  • Foster a proactive community where people actively engage in fixing issues.

  • Encourage quicker responses from authorities by streamlining the reporting process.

  • Unite people by encouraging collective action to address and resolve civic problems.

Problem

Issue

Extensive research highlights a significant gap in India's reporting system for civic concerns.

Challenges

Many individuals need help finding the correct channels or perceive the reporting process as too complex or overwhelming.

Consequences

This reporting gap includes hazardous situations, such as exposed live wires or open gutters, which pose serious risks and could result in fatal accidents if unresolved.

Research

I conducted thorough surveys and interviews to gain insights into user frustrations, needs, and behavioral patterns. This in-depth understanding proved instrumental in identifying pivotal features and crafting an intuitive user journey, ensuring the app's design aligns seamlessly with user preferences and requirements.

Research Findings & Insights

Prevalent Civic & Social Issues

What are the most typical civic and social issues faced by individuals in different regions of India?

Key Findings

Inadequate waste management, insufficient street lighting, sanitation challenges, and cases of animal abuse emerged as prevalent issues across diverse regions.

Relevance

These findings underscore the pressing need for a streamlined reporting mechanism to address these widespread concerns effectively.

Under-reporting Factors

What are the primary reasons behind the under-reporting or non-reporting of these issues in various communities?

Key Findings

Under-reporting is contributed to by a lack of awareness about reporting channels, perceived complexity in the process, fear of reprisal, and skepticism about the efficacy of reporting systems.

Relevance

Understanding these barriers highlights the necessity for an accessible and user-friendly reporting platform to encourage reporting despite these challenges.

I worry that reporting might lead to unnecessary trouble. There’s this fear of things getting worse or facing repercussions for speaking up .

Barriers to Reporting

What barriers or challenges do users face when reporting issues to relevant authorities or organizations?

Key Findings

Reporting is hindered by a lack of trust in authorities' responsiveness, language barriers in interface design, and concerns regarding privacy and security.

Relevance

Addressing these barriers is essential in designing a trustworthy, multilingual, secure reporting platform like ItsEnuf.

Technological Aptitude & User Expectations

How technologically adept are potential users in utilizing mobile applications for issue reporting and resolution?

Key Findings

Users exhibit varying levels of technological proficiency but unanimously prefer an intuitive, user-friendly interface.

Relevance

Insights emphasize the importance of a simple, easily navigable app interface to cater to users of diverse tech backgrounds.

I’ve seen numerous instances of streetlight issues, but I never knew who to inform. The process seemed too complicated, so I often didn’t bother.

Perception of Existing Mechanisms

How do users perceive the effectiveness of existing reporting mechanisms in addressing civic problems?

Key Findings

Users perceive current mechanisms as inefficient and slow, leading to reduced motivation to report issues.

Relevance

Highlighting these perceptions emphasizes the need for a more responsive and effective reporting system.

Essential Features for User Engagement

What features or functionalities do users consider essential in a mobile app to report civic and social issues?

Key Findings

Crucial features include:
- Easy reporting mechanisms.
- Real-time issue tracking.
- User feedback loops.
- Secure, anonymous reporting options.

These findings guide the development of ItsEnuf, ensuring it integrates critical features aligned with users' needs and preferences.

These insights were pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of the ItsEnuf app, ensuring that the design and functionality effectively address user pain points.

Problem Statements

Need for Streamlined Reporting

Users face significant civic and social issues, yet current reporting mechanisms could be more efficient and effective, leading to under-reporting.

Barriers to User Engagement

Trust in authorities, language barriers, and privacy concerns hinder users from reporting issues, requiring a solution that addresses these obstacles.

Demand for User-Friendly Technology

Varying levels of technological proficiency among users necessitate an intuitive, accessible app interface to ensure broad adoption.

UI Design

Color Palette

Primary Color

The core UI color is #393939, used for headers, text, and essential elements across the interface. This dark tone ensures high readability and contrast.

Typography

Hierarchy

Larger sizes like 36px for headers ensure clear differentiation between content sections, while medium sizes (24px) are used for subheadings, providing a smooth flow.

Iconography

Icon Set

This icon set is consistently used throughout the app for key actions such as navigation, reporting, and notifications. The icons are scalable, with variations in size for different screen resolutions (1x and 1.5x).

UI Components

Secondary Color

#AFDB00 brings vibrancy to the app and is used for highlights, action buttons, and accent elements. Its fresh tone reinforces the app's modern, active feel.

Body Text

Set at 18-20px, it ensures easy readability, especially on mobile screens.

Imagery

The app maintains a minimalistic visual style, with icons and imagery focused on simplicity and clarity, ensuring accessibility and ease of use.

Buttons

The app uses distinct button styles for key actions. The primary buttons (e.g., "Login" and "Yes") are bright green, emphasizing core actions. Secondary buttons (e.g., "No," "Cancel") use neutral tones. Different states like hover, focus, and active enhance the user experience, making interaction intuitive.

Accessibility

Shades and tints ensure sufficient contrast for visually impaired users, making the app accessible to a broader audience.

Readability

The font's simple structure, combined with appropriate spacing, helps maintain clarity, making it accessible and user-friendly for diverse audiences.

Forms

Input fields such as login, email, and dropdowns are clean and simple, focusing on usability. Toggles for notifications and form controls ensure easy reporting, and labels enhance clarity.
